The U-S backed humanitarian airdrop mission into Iraq is getting underway according to senior officials.

The planes are in the air and are being accompanies by fighter jets for protection.

The drops are coming amid emerging humanitarian crisis in northern Iraq where minority groups are facing possible slaughter by Sunni Muslim extremists.

The President is reportedly considering air strikes if necessary.

The Pentagon is denying reports overseas that the U-S has already conducted airstrikes.

The news of potential U.S. military escalation comes two years after President Obama ended U-S involvement in the Iraq war.
