It may not be long before you can put the pedal to the metal on Florida's highways.

If the governor signs the bill heading to his desk the department of transportation could raise the highway speed limit from 70 to 75 miles per hour.

Karen Morgan with the Triple-A Auto Club South wants the governor to veto -but says if the bill goes through-remember you don't always have to go as fast as the limit.

She says the increased speed will only lead to more deadly accidents.

Supporters say our roads are designed to safely handle traffic at 95-to-100 miles per hour.
