MIAMI (AP) _ Florida Democratic Rep. Joe Garcia is calling on the Obama administration to block Venezuela's sale of U.S.-based Citgo Petroleum Corp.
A Venezuelan official said earlier this month the country would sell its oil refining and distribution network in the U.S. for the right price.
Analysts say the proposal reflects the social government's urgent cash shortage.
Garcia announced his opposition to the sale alongside Venezuelan opposition leaders in Miami on Wednesday.
He said allowing Venezuela's government to monetize oil assets in the U.S. would be a ``grave mistake'' and hurt U.S. national interests as well.
