The Port of Miami tunnel is now expected to open a day earlier than expected.

Port officials say fire marshal inspectors have given them the thumbs-up to open the tunnel Sunday at 10 A-M.

It was originally supposed to open Monday following a more than two month delay.

The $1-billion project has been plagued by problems like exhaust fans malfunctioning.

The delays costing the construction company some $9-million-dollars in late fines.

The tunnel should ease traffic by pulling thousands of cars a day off Miami's downtown streets and routing them onto the MacArthur Causeway.
