More than a million construction workers across the country and here in South Florida are taking time-off from their jobs to focus on safety.

All this week the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is holding a "stand-down" to teach workers about the dangers associated with the job.

That includes falls, which account for the number one cause of death.

OSHA spokesperson Dr. David Michaels says nearly 300 workers died from falls in 2012, and thousands more suffered from injuries or disabilities.

"The campaign focuses on falls from roofs, ladders, and scaffolds," adds Michaels, "which accounts more more than a third of all fall fatalities in the construction industry in 2012."

The "Stand-Down" lasts until Friday, June 6th.
