Put the phone down.

That's the message coming from Miami-Dade cops as they partner with other agencies in a new anti texting-and-driving campaign that starts Friday.

Miami-Dade Police Sergeant John Barrow says they're focusing particularly on 16-to-24 year olds.

"The person who's texting and driving is distracted on three different fronts of their brain, so using less of their time actually focusing on the road," says Barrow.

The campaign involves lectures at local schools and universities, as well as printed material that will circulate throughout South Florida and the rest of the state.
