Fire rescue departments in Miami-Dade County announced CPR Miami Day.

It's an effort to get as many residents trained in the lifesaving method.

Officials say the importance of CPR made international headlines this year when a South Florida woman's five-month-old nephew stopped breathing while in the car on the Dolphin Expressway in February 2014.

That woman was able to use her CPR skills to save the child.

At a press conference Thursday, the Fire Officers Association of Miami-Dade (FOAM-D), composed of Coral Gables, Hialeah, Homestead, Key Biscayne, Miami, Miami Beach, and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Departments, said they are hosting free, countywide CPR training events for participants 11 years of age and older on Saturday, September 6th, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at seven locations.
