Miami-Dade commissioners will vote today on a $284 million plan to extend sewer access to 2,200 properties around the county.

Most of those properties are in older neighborhoods along major roads that do not sit on top of sewer lines.

Miami-Dade Commissoiner Jean Monestime is sponsoring the proposal. He says it will attract more businesses to lower-income areas.

Monestime adds that it's too expensive for businesses in those areas to connect to the far-away sewer lines.

The plan would initially tap into $126 million in voter-approved funds.
