As millions of drivers get set to hit the roads this holiday weekend, drivers are warned to be careful at intersections.

That's because Memorial Day weekend ranks as the highest period all year for red-light running.

National Coalition for Safer Roads President Melissa Wandall says Florida is among the worst states for red-light running, with 867,000 violations last year.

South Florida, specifically, recorded 483,000 red-light violations in 2013.

Wandall recommends being extra cautious as drivers approach an intersection, whether or not light is green or not.
