The city of Fort Lauderdale is giving residents a chance to learn about some proposed changes coming to the flood maps.

New Insurance Rate Maps will be going into effect on August 18th, and the city is holding an open house Thursday afternoon from 4pm to 6pm.

City spokesperson Shannon Vezina says they'll be discussing some of the changes that will affect plenty of residents including...

"Requiring a one-foot free board," says Vezina, "So for example, the lowest finished floor of a property would need to be one-foot above base flood elevation."
