Posted May 2nd, 2014 @ 3:30pm

Fort Lauderdale Officials are getting some new bullet proof vests -- and we're not talking about cops.

The city's Fire Rescue department distributed the gear in response to the recent active shooter incidents across the country like Fort Hood and the Aurora Colorado theater incident.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue is the first agency in South Florida to distribute the body armor on all fire rescue units and also develop guidelines for the gear deployment.
