The chief justice of the Florida Supreme Court is applying for a new job.

Ricky Polston wants to become president of Florida State University.

Polston, who was appointed to the bench by former Gov. Charlie Crist, submitted his application for FSU's vacant post this weekend - his main competition is John Thrasher who is allied with Governor Rick Scott.

Polston has said if he does not get the presidency, he will remain as the Chief Justice until mandatory retirement.
