There's officially a new way to travel around Downtown Miami Monday morning.
The Port Tunnel is handling rush hour traffic for the first time ever after opening a day ahead of schedule Sunday morning.
Construction crews getting the green light from the Fire Marshal Inspector to open Sunday.
Tunnel Project Spokesperson Chris Hodgkins says it's not just cargo truckers who benefit.
"Helping unclog the traffic in Downtown Miami," he adds, "Getting these cargo trucks and cruise passengers in and out of the tunnel quicker safer and better."
The project was delayed by more than two months because of malfunctioning filtration turbines.
The construction company was fined more than $9-Million dollars for the delays.
