There is just one week to go before school is back in session in South Florida.

Surveys show families are spending an average of 670 dollars on back-to-school shopping.

And, whether or not you're done buying your kids' clothes and supplies, it's time to consider other school-related budget issues.

RetailMeNot.com editor Trae Bodge says nearly 90 percent of parents end up shelling out about $400 more than they planned each year for extracurricular activities like sports or music lessons.

Bodge says the company's survey also revealed 3 out of 4 parents end up spending less on something for themselves in order to pay for their kids' extra activities.

The top items parents have cut back on for themselves include clothes, eating out, and vacations.
